Special Olympics Nevada and the NNOA – Swim Chapter – 2010 update
The Special Olympics is looking for Volunteers to work as Meet Officials at a swim meet they were hosting at UNR Saturday, June 5.
For the past two years the NNOA-Swim Chapter provided the Deck Officials for the Special Olympics Nevada Swim Meet. And again
we have been given the privilege of supporting this great organization. All the volunteers from the swim chapter who have worked
the meet have come away with knowing their efforts were well appreciated by the organizing committee of Special Olympics-Nevada. The
last two years we have provided about 10 officials who have assisted with the swim meet and the awards.
A few of the coaches who have worked the meet have suggested that high school swimmers be given an opportunity to assist with the
meet. The swimmers could use this event as community service hours that may be required by their high schools.
As many as 40 high school swimmers could volunteer to help as lane timers or athlete escorts.
One of the exciting things about this year’s competition is there maybe a surprise Group presenters visit the meet.
The Special Olympics Swimmers are from 5 to 60 years old. The events range from a 15 yard float to 400 IM. The sprit of the athletes was enormous.
The competition is set for Saturday, June 5, 2010 from 8:30am-3:30pm at the pool in the Lombardi Recreation Center - UNR
